Welcome to Mrs. Lister's Website
This is my second year teaching second grade at John B. Dey and I am looking forward to a year of growing and learning.
We are busy learning in 2010! Make sure to ask your child about their day in second grade.
In Reader's Workshop we are learning different strategies good readers use. We have become experts in visualizing, making connections, making predictions, and making inferences about what we read or is read aloud to us. We will continue to work on asking questions before, during, and after reading, as well as summarizing and wondering. Please practice these skills with your child when you are doing your nightly reading for homework. They have a lot to share with you!
We are getting ready for our "Publishing Celebration" on Thursday, April 1st from 2:20-2:50 in our classroom. We will be sharing our published small moments books, fairy tales, and poetry. After spring break we will begin to study author Mo Willems to learn what strategies he uses as an author.
In Science we are studying about plants. We will continue to study plants upon our return from spring break.
In Social Studies we are finishing our unit on American Indians. We have learned a lot about the Powhatan, Pueblo, and Lakota Indian tribes. Our test and American Indian extra credit projects are on Friday, April 2nd.
